A High-End Floor With Almost No Maintenance

Polished concrete has gone from industrial floor to design feature. Ground and polished to a smooth, subtly reflective surface, it gives homes and commercial spaces a clean, modern, seamless look — with none of the grout lines, dust traps or constant upkeep of other floors. It works beautifully with underfloor heating and open-plan living, and it simply doesn't wear out.

Mount Gambier Concrete offers the full range — from a full mechanical polished concrete finish, to lower-cost grind and seal, to a matte honed look. Whether it's a new home slab, an existing floor you want transformed, or a hard-wearing shed or commercial floor, we'll help you pick the right finish and quote it as a fixed price.

Polished, Honed & Sealed Floors

Polished Concrete Floors

Mechanically ground and polished floors with a smooth, reflective finish — a modern, low-maintenance look for homes, extensions and living areas.

Grind & Seal

A cost-effective alternative to full polishing — the surface is ground back and sealed for a clean, hard-wearing, easy-clean finish. Ideal for garages, sheds and commercial floors.

Honed Concrete

A softer, low-sheen honed finish that exposes a little aggregate — popular for alfresco areas, entries and floors where a matte look is wanted.

Commercial & Shed Floors

Durable polished or sealed floors for workshops, showrooms, warehouses and sheds — tough, dust-free and easy to keep clean.

New Floors & Transformed Existing Slabs

For a new home or extension, we can lay and finish the slab, then polish it to the level of sheen and aggregate exposure you want. For existing floors — a tired garage, an old shed, a dated interior slab — we can often grind it back and polish or seal it to give it a completely new life, if the slab is sound.

Either way, you get honest advice on what finish will actually work for your slab and your budget, a written fixed-price quote, and a durable, easy-clean floor at the end of it. It pairs well with our exposed aggregate and coloured concrete finishes for indoor–outdoor flow.

What will it cost?

Polished concrete cost depends on the finish level and whether it's a new or existing slab. Our polished concrete cost guide lays out the typical per-square-metre ranges so you can plan your budget.

How We Polish Concrete

Polishing is a mechanical process of grinding concrete through progressively finer diamond grits until it reaches the sheen and stone exposure you want. Whether it's a new slab or an existing floor, the sequence is the same — and the preparation decides the result.

  1. 01

    Assess the slab

We check the floor first — its flatness, condition and the aggregate in it. This tells us what level of polish and stone exposure is realistically achievable, so we can advise honestly rather than over-promise.

  2. 02

    Prepare & repair

We grind off any coatings, glue or contaminants, and fill cracks, holes and joints as needed so the finished floor is smooth and sound.

  3. 03

    Coarse grinding

Using coarse diamond grits, we make the first cuts — flattening the surface and, if you want stone showing, exposing the aggregate to the chosen level (cream, salt-and-pepper or full exposure).

  4. 04

    Densify & harden

We apply a densifier that hardens the concrete surface, making it more durable, dust-free and ready to take a polish.

  5. 05

    Progressive polishing

We work up through finer and finer grits to build the sheen — matte, satin or high-gloss — or, for grind and seal, we stop earlier and move to sealing.

  6. 06

    Seal or finish

For grind and seal we apply a protective sealer coat; for a full polish we finish with the final polishing passes and a guard/protector. The floor is left clean and ready to use.

  7. 07

    Care handover

We tell you how to look after the floor — it's low-maintenance, but a little care keeps it looking its best for decades.

Honest Advice & a Fixed Price

The finished look of polished concrete depends a lot on the slab you start with — so the most important thing we offer is an honest assessment before you commit. Your quote is written, fixed, and itemised.

Included in your quote

  • Slab assessment and advice on what's achievable
  • Surface preparation and coating removal
  • Crack, hole and joint repairs
  • Grinding and polishing to the agreed finish
  • Densifier and (for grind & seal) sealer
  • Clean-up on completion
  • Care and maintenance guidance

What affects the price

  • Grind & seal vs full mechanical polish
  • The level of sheen and aggregate exposure
  • New slab vs transforming an existing floor
  • Condition of an existing slab (repairs, levelling)
  • Floor area and how cut-up the space is
  • Any decorative dyes or design work

Our transparency promise

We won't tell you a tired old slab will polish up like a showroom if it won't. We assess the floor, explain honestly what finish is realistic, and recommend grind & seal or a full polish to suit your budget and use. The written price is the price you pay — no surprise variations.

Polished Concrete FAQs

How much does polished concrete cost in Mount Gambier?
Polished concrete is priced per square metre and varies with the level of polish, the aggregate exposure and whether it's a new or existing slab. Grind and seal is the most affordable option, with full mechanical polishing costing more. We give you a fixed-price quote — see our polished concrete cost guide for typical ranges.
What's the difference between polished concrete and grind & seal?
Full polished concrete is mechanically ground and polished through progressively finer grits to a smooth, reflective surface. Grind and seal grinds the surface back then applies a protective sealer coat — a lower-cost finish that still looks clean and is very hard-wearing. We'll help you choose the right one for your budget and use.
Is polished concrete good for homes?
Yes. Polished concrete floors are low-maintenance, don't harbour dust or allergens, work brilliantly with underfloor heating, and give a modern, seamless look. They're a popular choice for new homes, extensions and renovations across the Limestone Coast.
Can you polish my existing concrete floor?
Often, yes. If the existing slab is sound, we can grind and polish or grind and seal it to transform a plain or tired floor. We'll assess the slab first and let you know honestly what finish is achievable.
Is polished concrete slippery?
A polished floor is smooth, but sealers and finishes can include slip-resistant additives where needed, particularly for wet areas or commercial spaces. For outdoor and alfresco areas a honed finish is often a better, grippier choice.
