The Look of Paving, Without the Problems

Plain grey concrete is tough and practical — but it doesn't have to be plain. Coloured, stamped and stencil concrete give you the look of natural stone, slate, timber or brick paving in a single continuous pour. No joints for weeds to grow through, no pavers to sink or shift, and a fraction of the ongoing maintenance.

Mount Gambier Concrete offers the full decorative range — from a simple coloured driveway that suits your home, to richly textured stamped concrete, cost-effective stencil patterns, and spray-on resurfacing to freshen up existing concrete. We help you choose the colour and pattern, then pour and seal it to last.

Decorative Concrete Finishes

Coloured Concrete

Colour worked through or onto the concrete for a rich, uniform tone — coloured driveways, paths and patios that suit your home instead of plain grey.

Stamped Concrete

Concrete stamped and coloured to look like natural stone, slate, timber or pavers — the premium look of paving in one seamless, weed-free pour.

Stencil Concrete

A stencilled pattern and colour that mimics brick or tile paving — a proven, cost-effective decorative finish for driveways and paths.

Spray-On Concrete

Spray-on (spraycrete) resurfacing to give existing concrete a fresh, patterned, coloured finish without a full replacement.

How We Lay Coloured & Stamped Concrete

Colour and pattern are applied while the concrete is fresh, which means the timing on the day is everything. Here's how we take a decorative pour from base to sealed finish.

  1. 01

Set out & prepare the base

We excavate, build up and compact the base, and set the formwork to line and level with proper drainage falls. Reinforcement goes in on chairs — decorative concrete needs the same solid foundation as any pour.

  2. 02

    Choose the colour method

Colour is added either integrally (mixed through the concrete for a rich, consistent tone) or as a colour hardener broadcast onto the surface. We help you choose the method and shade to suit your home.

  3. 03

    Pour, screed & float

We place and screed the concrete level, then float the surface ready for the decorative work.

  4. 04

    Apply colour & release agent

For stamped work we apply a colour release agent that both tints the surface and stops the stamps sticking, giving depth and a natural, variegated look.

  5. 05

    Stamp or stencil the pattern

At the right moment we press the textured stamping mats into the surface to create the stone, slate, timber or paver look — or, for stencil concrete, lay the stencil and colour to create a paved pattern.

  6. 06

    Detail, joint & wash

We hand-detail edges and touch-ups, cut control joints to manage cracking, and once cured, wash off the release agent to reveal the finished colour.

  7. 07

    Cure & seal

We cure the concrete, then seal it to lock in the colour, deepen the finish, resist stains and make it easy to clean. We advise when it's ready to use and how often to reseal.

Coloured & Stamped Concrete FAQs

How much does coloured or stamped concrete cost?
Coloured concrete is only a little more than plain, while stamped and stencil finishes cost more because of the extra materials and labour. It's still typically cheaper than laying and maintaining real pavers or stone. We provide a fixed-price quote for your job — our cost guides cover the typical decorative concrete ranges.
What's the difference between stamped and stencil concrete?
Stamped concrete uses textured mats pressed into fresh concrete to create a 3D stone, slate or timber texture. Stencil concrete uses a paper stencil and colour to create a paved brick or tile pattern on a flatter surface. Stamped looks more like real stone; stencil is a cost-effective way to get a paved look.
Is decorative concrete better than pavers?
For many jobs, yes. Coloured, stamped and stencil concrete give you the look of pavers or stone in one seamless pour — with no weeds growing through the joints, no pavers to sink or shift, and far less maintenance. It's a popular, durable alternative for driveways and patios.
Does coloured and stamped concrete need sealing?
Yes. Sealing protects the colour, deepens the finish, resists stains and makes it easier to clean. Decorative finishes should be resealed every few years to keep them looking their best — we'll advise on timing for your finish.
Can you colour-match to my house?
Yes. There's a broad palette of colours and pattern options, so we can help you choose a colour and texture that complements your home, roof and garden — subtle and modern, or bold and characterful.
