Concreters Millicent

The flat land around Millicent was historically swamp, drained by the network of channels that still criss-crosses the South East. Beneath the surface you'll often find organic, peaty and sandy soils over limestone, and in the lower spots the water table sits close to the surface — especially through winter and after rain.

That's soft, variable ground, and it's unforgiving of a lazy base. Concrete poured straight onto uncompacted organic soil will settle and crack. We build up and compact a proper engineered sub-base, use a moisture barrier where the water table demands it, and reinforce to suit — so the slab sits on something solid, not on ground that's still moving.

Millicent is the largest town in the Wattle Range, a busy service centre for the surrounding farming, dairy and forestry district. We cover the town itself and out to the coast and countryside around it — near Lake McIntyre and its wildlife reserve, the Millicent Domain, and toward Canunda National Park and the coast at Southend. The town's history as a forestry and shipwreck-coast community (the Admella story is part of the local fabric) sits alongside a strong modern dairy and timber economy.

That economy shapes the work: pine-plantation and timber operations, dairy farms and croppers all need practical, hard-wearing concrete, right alongside the driveways, paths and slabs of the town's homes.

Shed slabs, farm and dairy concreting, and machinery hardstands are staples out in the district, where the ground and the loads both demand proper preparation. In town, it's driveways, paths, house slabs and the occasional decorative or exposed aggregate job. Because so much of the local work sits on soft or drained ground, our focus on base preparation and drainage is exactly what a Millicent job needs.
